Blind Ant
A small black ant carrying a bright shard of glass across a dark surface.
The fragment reflects light like a signal beacon.
The ant appears small but purposeful, suggesting persistence and the quiet movement of ideas.
The practice
Blind Ant is a design fiction practice. It brings together generative AI, accessibility knowledge and lived blindness, and makes things you can read, hear and look at.
Nothing here is a generated picture. Every image is drawn in code from its description, so the description comes first and is always true. The logo above has never been drawn at all.
Pieces
A Piece is a complete work, made of one or more Objects. The gallery is being rehung, and Pieces come back one at a time.
- Always Six: A 12-second hand-painted cartoon about a die that always lands on six, and the story of how its audio description was written before a single frame was drawn.
- Do Androids Dream of Electric Ants?: In July a language model described a giant BLIND ANT sign on a hill, a picture that did not exist. In October it built the hill, the sign and the light, and now the picture does.
